The Ordinary Vitamin C Suspension Review – Vitamin C, an elixir to increase the radiance of almost all skin types, adds hydration, reduces redness, hyperpigmentation, and the appearance of dark circles. Moreover, this quintessential vitamin also stimulates collagen production, prevents sagging, whilst offering protection against sun damage, and improving sunburns while also promoting wound healing. In the following review, I shall share my experience of my encounter with one of The Ordinary’s most coveted skincare product, the Vitamin C Suspension. Even though the brand offers eight Vitamin C products, only one remains aavailable in our country.
The makers designed the Vitamin C Suspension 23% with HA Spheres to improve the appearance of aging skin by balancing uneven skin tone and brightening it. It contains direct vitamin C and hyaluronic acid and formulates without water to keep the 23% pure L-Ascorbic Acid stable. Additionally, the product enriches with hyaluronic acid spheres to give extra hydration to the skin.
IS THIS YOUR FIRST TIME USING VITAMIN C?
If yes, I would recommend using a lower concentration first like, the Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin Drop which has just 5% vitamin C. Later when your skin get used to the active, you can move on to higher concentrations.
PRODUCT DETAILS
Vitamin C Suspension 23% in HA Spheres uses direct vitamin C and hyaluronic acid to help visibly reduce signs of aging by brightening and balancing uneven skin tone. This water-free formula provides 23% pure L-Ascorbic Acid which remains completely stable due to the absence of water.
Note: This product has a slightly granular texture because it suspends vitamin C powder in an oil-like base, which takes a few seconds to absorb into the skin with each application. If you want, you can dilute the formula in a cream base during application to help your skin build tolerance over time.
THE ORDINARY VITAMIN C SUSPENSION, HOW TO USE IT?
As per the brand, you need to use this after water-based serums, anhydrous serums and oils but, before creams.
📌 Mix this with a light moisturizer or essence to remove the grainy texture and make it smoother for faster absorption.
PACKAGING & CONSISTENCY
The Ordinary vitamin C suspension has a thin runny consistency. The tube packaging does not help either. The moment you open the cap, the serum leaks out fast. So be careful.
PRICE
30ML – 700rs
Please note that this product is an oil based product and does contain 2 pore clogging ingredients, one with a comedogenic rating of 4 so it is certainly not for everyone.
MY EXPERIENCE
Skin Type – Normal Sensitive
I previously used the Deconstruct Vitamin C serum and was satisfied with its performance. However, I became hesitant about the brand due to their unstable sunscreen product and the use of controversial UV filters. As a result, I decided to switch to The Ordinary, which is a reliable brand with trustworthy products.
Since using this Vitamin C serum for a month, I have noticed a visible glow in my skin. It has won me over with its brightening effects, although my hyper-pigmentation still remains, it does seem to be getting lighter. Initially I was skeptical about vitamin C boosting collagen production, consistent usage of this serum has indeed made my skin appear plumper.
The consistency of The Ordinary’s Vitamin C serum is quite thin and runny, making it challenging to squeeze out just a pea-size amount. The packaging also does not help since the serum tends to leak out quickly upon opening the cap. Therefore, it is essential to be careful when handling the product to avoid wasting it.
WHAT CAN I MIX WITH THE ORDINARY VITAMIN C SUSPENSION?
Although the texture of The Ordinary’s Vitamin C serum is gritty, I have found that mixing it with Cosrx snail mucin before application makes it smoother and easier to absorb into my skin. You can mix it with any lightweight moisturiser to get rid of the grainy texture. However, if you find this too annoying, you may want to consider trying The Ordinary Ethylated Ascorbic Acid 15% Solution or The Ordinary Vitamin C Suspension 30% in Silicone instead.
After applying the serum, my skin tingles for a few minutes, but it settles down nicely afterward. The serum does leave an dewy- oily finish, which may make it tempting to skip moisturizing. However, since 23% vitamin C is too potent for my sensitive skin, I opt to use a calming moisturizer and sunscreen after application. If your skin is less sensitive and can tolerate the product well, you may consider using it twice a day.
Lastly, do not use on this broken skin and always dilute to reduce the concentration in case of unbearable burning sensation or redness.
