BOS Essentials Vitamin C Powder Review

Bos vitamin c powder

Vitamin C serum is an essential part of any anti ageing skin care routine. I did try vitamin c serum with various non chew able tablets at first But, They did not work well with my sensitive skin. They were chalky too which makes it impossible to increase the concentration to 10% and above. This post is all about my new favourite BOS essentials Vitamin C powder.

After experimenting with the serum recipes online, i came to the conclusion that keeping it simple is the best for my sensitive skin. Whenever i add Glycerine, Aloe Vera, Hyaluronic acid, or Vitamin E oil, It just becomes too much for my skin making it unable to breathe.

This may be a longer post compared to the usual. It is because of the two skin problems that i faced when i started using this Vitamin c serum. You may come across the same skin problems too. They were,

  • Skin Purging (Sudden breakouts)
  • Skin Darkening

This pure L Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) powder is specifically formulated for cosmetic use. It is ultra fine, powder-like consistency dissolves instantly in water resulting in luxurious serums that penetrate and absorb into the skin. Bos Essentials Vitamin C Powder can be added to an existing cream or cosmetic product or used to create a unique DIY serum.

Product Description

Bos Essentials Vitamin C Powder is specifically formulated for cosmetic use, its ultra fine powder-like consistency allows it to dissolve INSTANTLY in water, creating luxurious serums and allowing deeper skin penetration.

Vitamin C increases collagen production, neutralizes free radicals, brightens skin, diminishes lines and wrinkles and has been shown in studies to prevent and treat ultraviolet (UV)-induced photo damage.

Vitamin C is highly unstable and degrades quickly. Commercial Vitamin C products are expensive and not very effective. By making your own fresh serums, you can save money and take advantage of its full range of skin benefits.

No fillers, additives or additional ingredients, just pure L Ascorbic Acid. Lab tested for purity and guaranteed bacteria free.

How To Make

First timers should start slow with a 5% concentration. Test for skin sensitivity by doing a patch test behind the ear. Increase the concentration depending on how your skin tolerates it.

  • ½ tablespoon to 4 tablespoon of distilled water for a 5% concentrated vitamin c serum
  • 1 tablespoon to 4 tablespoon of distilled water for a 10% concentration
  • 1.5 tablespoon to 4 tablespoon of distilled water for a 15% concentration
  • 2 tablespoon of vitamin c powder to 4 tablespoon of water for a 20% concentration

Mix until dissolved and the liquid becomes clear and transparent. This should not take more than 2-3 seconds. Pour this serum to a dark coloured bottle and store in the refrigerator or a dark cool place.

You may also add,

  • Baking soda to adjust the pH of the vitamin c serum
  • Ferulic acid powder to stabilise and increase the longevity of the serum
  • Hyaluronic acid powder to moisturise and plump, increase skin elasticity

I add 1/2 tablespoon vitamin c powder to 1 tablespoon of water to make a 20% concentrated solution. diy vitamin c serum

How Long Does It Stay Fresh?

Two weeks. Actually i have tried to make a bigger batch. Mine always lasts for about two weeks before making a new batch.

If the vitamin c serum changes colour to anything other than transparent/clear, it is time to throw it out.

Keep the serum in a darker bottle and in the refrigerator so that it lasts longer.

My Experience

Skin Type – Normal sensitive

The first time i used this, there was a stinging sensation on my skin but there was no redness. So i continued to use it. And then, i got acne breakouts on my chin and my nose area. 🙁

I googled and found out that this may be something called ‘Purging’.

Purging is temporary and does subside after 4-6 weeks. I continued using the serum and finally, my skin started to heal in about 4 weeks. It was scary as i have never had acne except occasionally during periods. I thought i had ruined my skin because of my own experiments.

What Is Purging?

Does your skin breakout when you try skin care products that contain Alpha hydroxy acids(Glycolic acid) or Beta hydroxy acids(Salicylic acid), Retinol, Vitamin C?

Then, it could be because of skin purging. These ingredients increase the cell turn over rate as well as the exfoliation rate which makes the skin detox faster. Everything is pushed to the skin surface at a faster rate. This process just means that the active ingredient is working.

The above ingredients may worsen your skin condition first before actually making it healthier. This fast exfoliation is what makes the blemishes disappear and the skin to lighten.

After the purging phase, your skin will be smoother, clear and healthier. So do not be afraid to try these products because of breakouts. Although keep in mind to always introduce such products in low concentrations until your skin gets used to it.

Skin Darkening?

By the time my skin healed from the acne, i noticed that it had turned two shades darker. 🙁 I did not skip using sunscreen even for a single day. I did hate this product for quite some time because my skin looked worse. At that point, i just wanted my skin back and did not care about anti ageing, brightening or glowing skin.

As usual, I googled again and found out about how vitamin c may stain our skin. How come no one ever experiences this? I did not see any blogger or You tuber talk about it.

Anyways, i now use vitamin c serum only at night. It has been a month since then. My skin colour has started to brighten considerably and the new acne scars have faded to an extent.

Will I recommend Bos Essentials Vitamin C Powder?

Bos essentials vitamin c powder is a genuine product that works. It certainly does help fade acne scars, dark spots, sun tan, hyper pigmentation, and fine lines. It has improved the skin texture of my neck and diminished the appearance of neck lines. The hyper pigmentation around my mouth has also lightened.

This vitamin c serum does brighten the skin. There isn’t any difference to be seen on my mild dark circles. But i shouldn’t be greedy. 🙂 For now, i am happy with this serum as it is much cheaper to make my own vitamin C serum and with this quantity, it will last for a long time.

My skin does not sting any more but it does feel hot. Even with the heat on my skin , it did not turn red or cause further irritation. It may be just because of my sensitive skin.

Since i started using the vitamin c serum, I feel that my skin sensitivity has reduced a bit. Threading eye brows usually make my skin red and mildly swollen for 2-3 hours  but this time, nothing happened. 🙂 I am not sure whether it is my DIY toner or vitamin C serum or both. I really hope my skin changes for the better.

I am glad i did not stop using vitamin c serum. After all i did learn a lot of new things from this experience.
