But, If you have normal to dry or even sensitive skin, go for gentle clay’s like kaolin clay or Rhassoul clay.

Is Kaolin Good For Acne?

Clay helps clear the pores off acne causing bacteria and other pore clogging impurities and thus, prevents new acne from forming.

Kaolin clay does absorb excess oil to a great extend but that may not be enough for super oily skin.

Oily skin beauties should go for red or green kaolin clay. OR, Simply go for other super absorbent clay’s like Bentonite clay.

Which Kaolin Clay Is Best?

This question is tough to answer as it depends on your skin type.

White Clay – Mild absorbent and exfoliating properties. White kaolin clay is the purest and gentlest of them all.

Best for normal to dry skin and extremely sensitive skin.

Yellow Clay – Medium absorbent properties when compared to white and red kaolin clay. This clay has some skin rejuvenating and brightening properties in them.

Yellow clay has higher mineral content and hence, helps promote blood circulation and nourishes the skin effectively.

Best for normal to combination skin types.

Red Clay – Best suited for oily skin as it has the most absorbent of the other four kaolin clay’s. It cleanses the pores and removes excess oil, grime and bacteria effectively.

Mix red and white kaolin clay and Viola, you have pink clay. So if you are not sure what your skin needs then go for pink clay.

Which Clay Is Best For Skin Whitening?

Yellow kaolin clay does provide some skin brightening effects BUT the most suited clay for skin whitening would be BENTONITE clay.

Bentonite clay is best suited for super oily skin though.

As i have normal sensitive skin, i have never used Bentonite clay. So i cannot comment on its effectiveness on skin lightening.

I have used Multani mitti face pack (Also known as Calcium bentonite clay, Fuller’s earth) once in my life time. It left my skin tight and stretchy with dry patches which i did not know existed on my face.

I use bentonite clay on eye stye/pimple as you can see here – How To Treat Eye Stye/Pimple At Home.

Should I Moisturise After A Clay Mask?

Yes, it is better to moisturise your skin after using a face mask. Even a simple Aloe Vera gel would work to soothe, heal and moisturise your skin.

How Often Should You Put A Clay Mask On Your Face?

You can use a clay mask three times a week for 20 minutes.

If you prefer to use clay masks daily as a face cleanser, remember to wash it off before it dries completely.

This Is Really Important.

Else, your skin will be stripped of all the excess oil every single day which would inturn make your skin produce more sebum. This may lead to acne breakouts.

You might end up unintentionally ruining your skin.

Usually i use my homemade Green Tea and Rosemary Toner or Green Tea and Liquorice root toner to make this face mask. Both of the two toners already have glycerine in it so, i am not adding it separately in the below photo.

If you can, go for Matcha Green Tea as it has 130+ times of antioxidants than the normal green tea. On second thought, it might be better to drink it.

My Experience

Skin Type –  Normal Sensitive

As i have sensitive skin, Kaolin clay masks are all that suits my skin. If you have sensitive skin, you can choose any form of kaolin clay without worrying about having a reaction to its mineral content.

Clay face mask does cleanse my skin without drying it.

It does helps brighten and tone my skin.

I did try using Kaolin clay face pack with water or rose water but, my skin did feel mildly tight. Hence, I always add hydrating ingredients while making clay face packs to prevent dryness and also, nourish my skin.

Currently these are my favourite kaolin clay recipes. If i find other recipes that have better results than these, then i will update it again for your guys.

That’s it for now.
