SUGAR WAX INGREDIENTS

  • Granulated Sugar – 1 cup
  • Lemon Juice/Apple cider vinegar – 1/4 cup (4 Tablespoon)
  • Water – 1/4 cup

OTHERS

You also need a butter knife or a popsicle stick to spread the wax onto your skin.

Cotton cloth cut into stripes or coffee filters.

HOW TO

Mix sugar, honey and lemon juice in a pan.

Place it on the stove on medium high heat and stir until it starts to boil.

Reduce the flame and stir it continuously.

Once the colour changes to that of honey, switch of the flame.

Pour the contents to another glass bowl.

Remember, the glass bowl/jar should be hot/warm or else it will crack or even shatter. Please be careful.

Let the wax cool down for 30-45 minutes.

Now you can use the wax since it is mildly warm or store it for later use.

NOTE

If you have a candy thermometer, the temperature should be around 240-250 degrees to make soft wax.

A candy thermometer only costs around 199/- and even less on sale.

This is a product worth investing.

HOW DO YOU CHECK THE RIGHT CONSISTENCY?

Once the mixture starts to thicken, take a teaspoon of it and drip it in to a bowl of water.

If it holds its shape and sinks to the bottom, it is done.

Beginners or not, You may need to do this multiple times until you get the right consistency.

Do not judge the right consistency only based on the change in colour.

HOW TO APPLY SUGAR WAX?

Lightly dust baby powder or corn starch to the area you intend to wax. This is to remove excess moisture so that the wax will stick to the hairs well.

Spread the soft sugar wax in the OPPOSITE DIRECTION of hair growth.

Place a cotton strip or store bought strip on it and press down gently to smoothen it.

Once you feel that its sticking properly, quickly pull the stripes IN THE DIRECTION of hair growth.

Pull the skin tightly stretched before pulling the stripes off.

Apply pressure in the area for a few seconds by pressing with your fingers.

In short, You have to spread the warm sugar wax in the opposite direction of hair growth and pull the strip in the direction of hair growth. Important !!!

BENEFITS

Pulling in the same direction of hair growth prevents ingrown hairs and there is also less chance of inflammation like, soreness, redness, rashes, bumps.

This is the reason why sugar waxing is better than the other waxing methods. It is certainly much gentler and hence, is suitable for even sensitive skin types.
